average - usual or normal.
bear - to give birth to.
breathe - to take air into the lungs and let it out again.
cold-blooded - having a body temperature that becomes colder or warmer as the temperature of the air or water becomes colder or warmer.
distance - the length of a line between two points.
egg - the oval or round body laid by a female bird, fish or reptile. A young animal of the same kind hatches from it at a later time.
feather- the soft, light covering that grows out of the skin of birds.
gallon - a unit of liquid measure equal to 4 quarts.
inch - a measure equal to 1/12 of a foot.
lungs - two spongelike organs found in the chest of vertebrates and used in breathing.
miles per hour - the number of miles that can be travelled within an hour. This measure the speed of an object or animal.
ounce - a unit of weight equal to 1/16 of a pound.
pound - a unit of weight equal to 16 ounces.
scale - thin, flat, hard plates covering the body of many fish and reptiles.
scute - a bony, scalelike plate found on some fish and many reptiles.
typical - being a good example of its kind.
venemous - able to cause a poisonous wound by biting or stinging.
vertebrate - an animal with a backbone.
warm-blooded - having blood that remains about the same temperature no matter what the temperature is of the air or water around the animal.
weigh - to find out how heavy a thing is.
wing span - the distance between the tips of a pair of bird's wings when spread.
