Introduction

Welcome to the wonderful world of the solar system. The solar system is the sun and its nine planets : Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. These planets move through space in an orderly manner. The solar system also consists of the sun, planets, moons, asteroids, meteors, and comets. Some terms one will need to know for a better understanding of the solar system are: Satellite -anything which is in orbit around a larger body. Comets are made up of frozen gas and dust particles. They shine by reflecting the sun's light as they travels in a stretched out orbit around the sun. As a comet gets closer to the sun, it melts and forms a tail. Asteroids are believed to be pieces of a planet that broke apart. Meteors are streaks of light made by chunks of stone or metal traveling through the Earth's atmosphere and burning up. Some people call meteors shooting stars.
