Goals and Objectives
The organization of these materials seeks to support the following goals and objectives for this course of study:
For the Faculty:To create an action plan which would be understandable and easy to use in its implementation
To provide ready access to teaching materials and resources for the students and the faculty in a "need to know' fashion so that questions would be encouraged and accurate information could be obtained immediately.
To create a timeline for the introduction of information about Alexander and his life in a manner which would promote understanding of the era, lifestyles, campaigns, and his legacy.
To establish the relevancy of why it is important to study the past in order to understand the present and survive the future.
To promote the integration of technology in the classroom for relevant and useful purposes and to use the technology to offer expanded learning opportunities for the students( E-mail, Internet access, downloading files, creating web pages, creating Hypercard and Hyperstudio stacks, and video conferencing)
To assist and support students in the development of their group and individual projects to encourage self-esteem, cooperative social skills, and good communication skills using appropriate verbal language
To develop and require students to convey their ideas to others using acceptable written language skills in a coherent manner
For the Students:
To learn who Alexander the Great was and why his life is important for a high school student to understand.
To begin to explore the history and events that occurred during the period of Alexander's life and to discover how he was influenced by his teachers and what was happening in his world
To learn about the battles and campaigns that Alexander fought and how the people who his armies conquered were governed
To begin to think about how you personally would have acted if you had been Alexander and to support your hypothesis with good research and arguments.
To learn to use good research methods to find the information you need for your group and individual projects and to develop this information in a coherent and interesting format (verbal and written) for presentation to the class and for use by students in other locations
To become more familiar with the use of the Internet and search engines for your research and to use other applications of this technology in your projects( E-mail, Internet access, downloading files, creating web pages, creating Hypercard and Hyperstudio stacks, and video conferencing)
To learn how to work collaboratively in groups by developing good cooperative skills and becoming personally responsible for deadlines and group choices
