them.

Introduction: The teacher will explain to the class, when
someone wants to take a book out of the library they read the jacket
cover. It is important to have an
interesting jacket cover so people will want to read their book. In the inside of the jacket cover it tells a
summary of the story. It does not tell
the whole story. The teacher explains
to the students that if it would tell the whole story the person would not
bother to read the book, since they already know the ending. The cover tells enough to grab your attention
and make you want to read it.
Lesson: The teacher will split the class into 4
parts. Each part will be given a book
about Pesach. The four books are Dear
Elijah by Miriam Bat-Ami, Pesach with Bina and Benny by Yaffa Ganz, Only Nine Chairs
by Deborah Uchill Miller and Sammy Spider for Passover by Sylvia A. Rouss. Each group will have a specific place in the
room to sit and read. They will get
into their groups and they will read the book going around from one person to
the next. While they are reading the
book they will write down any hard words, which they found. When the whole book is read they will take a
dictionary and look up the words, which they found were difficult. After the group finishes looking up the
words they then will have to create a new book cover for the book, which they
read. For example the group reading
Pesach with Bina and Benny might draw a Seder table for the cover. The group will also have to create a
summary, which is usually found in the inside of the jacket. The group should not tell the ending of the
story but keep the readers in suspense to encourage others to read the book.
Closing
Activity: The groups will present
their jacket covers to the class. They
will read the summary, which they wrote and show the class the picture they
made. They will explain to the class
why they drew that specific picture for the cover.
