Introduction: The teacher will create two webs on the blackboard. The first web will have the word map in the
middle. The second web will have the word
timeline in the middle. The teacher
will ask the students questions such as what do we find on a map? What characteristics do we need on a
timeline? The teacher will put the
children’s responses on lines coming from the middle. For example the word, map.
Map will be put in the middle and coming out will be the words,
countries, cities, borders and physical features.

Lesson: The class will be divided into two
parts. One half of the class will be
expected to make a timeline of the Jew’s different stops on their way to the Land
of Israel. The other half will be
expected to create a map of the travels of the Jews. The teacher will give out a sheet, which will have all the places
where the Jews stopped on the way to the Land of Israel.*
The half of the class, which is creating a timeline,
has to make sure they fulfill specific requirements. Their Social Studies book Communities from Mcmillian-Mcgraw/Hill
can be used as a guide. The timeline must
start from earliest dates to the most recent going from left to right on the
page. The timeline will also be graded
on how neat and professional it looks.
The spaces on the timeline have to go up on even increments using even
spaces. A rubric will be given to the
students. For guidelines to create a
timeline they can refer to their Social Studies book. The students who are creating the map they have to make sure
theirs also are neat and professional looking.
They have to find out where the places are located using a Chumash.
Closing Activity: The teacher
will go over all the maps and timelines, which the students created, using the
webs as a guideline. The teacher will
make sure the important points are covered referring back to the web. Then the students will then present their
project to the class.
