Ilvio M. Zaccardelli

Born December 2, 1945 in the Abruzzi region of Italy in time to celebrate the end of WWII. The family immigrated to the United States in 1956, and four years later I entered a Catholic monastery to study for the priesthood. Besides theology and philosophy, my academic training contained very large doses of mathematics and science. While I have always remained grateful for the classical training, I never embraced fully the ceremony and practices of the church, and seven years, I gave up the vocation of would-be servant to the world.

After four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war, I was honorably discharged, and I went to work with Motorola Communications as a radio technician. Having enjoyed a wonderful career, I retired twenty five years later, and became a teacher of Mathematics. Now married to Elenh, with whom I am deeply in love, we have three wonderful children. For the past four years I have enjoyed demonstrating and explaining the simplicity of Mathematics to an appreciative audience at Cleveland’s Max S. Hayes High School.
