Three Branches of the U.S. Government

Executive

The President is the leader of our National Government. The President suggests new laws which need to be approved by the Legislative Branch. Our President is also the head of the army, navy, air force and marines. The President lives in the White House in Washington D.C.

Legislative

Each state has a leader called a Governor. States also have two Senators. They meet together in Washington D.C., in a group called the Senate, to make laws. Representatives from each state also have meetings in a group that is called the House of Representatives. The Senate and the House of Representatives are often called the Congress. Congress has their meetings in the Capitol building.

Judicial

The Supreme Court makes up the third branch of the national government. It is the most powerful court in our country. The nine judges of the Supreme Court see that all citizens of the United States follow the laws of our nation that are written in the Constitution.
