Cleveland Botanical Gardens

The Cleveland Botanical Gardens contain plants that grow in the Cleveland, Ohio area and they provide educational programs as well as historical information. On the grounds there is also the Eleanor Squire Library, which is open to children and adults to research the history of plants, gardens and horticulture in the north-east Ohio area.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo covers 165 rolling acres and it is the seventh oldest zoo in the United States. The zoo takes full advantage of the space and it is the home to thousands of animals from seven continets. The Rainforest is a large structure that includes two indoor acres of the tropics. What a great way to learn about animals, their lifestyles, habitats, and eating habits. The zoo has a wonderful "hands on" educational program that goes from early childhood grades, all the way to college-level courses.

The Cleveland Museum of Art is an excting place to visit and explore. It contains more than 30,000 works of art ranging over 5,000 years. The admission is free to the Cleveland Museum of Art, and it has displays including an Armor Court, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist galleries, photography, and numerous other displays. The museum also contains a Teacher Resource Center that is designed to help educators learn how to use the museum's collection and staff resources within their school's curriculum. Take advantage of the Ingalls Library, which is the fourth largest art musuem library in the country. Schedule a field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art and try one of their programs that includes an art project for the students to take back to school to display their new knowledge.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History contains displays involving anthropology, archaeology, astronomy, botany, geology, paleontology, zoology and wildlife biology. The museum has been an educational and environmental resource since 1920. Beyond the general displays, there is an observatory, planetarium, live animal programs, discovery center, the Harold Terry Clark Library and the Ark in the Park Museum Shop. Crawford Auto and Aviation Museum

The Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum contains approximatly 200 antique, vintage, and classic automobiles and aircraft. There is a focus on cars created in Cleveland between 1898 and 1931 as well as numerous other cars, bicycles, motorcycles, trucks and airplanes to view throughout the museum. This is a great way to step into the technology of the past. They are open for group tours or groups can rent out the museum for special programs.

Dunham Tavern Museum

The Dunham Tavern Museum was once a stagecoach stop and is the oldest building still standing on its original site in Cleveland. Jane Pratt Dunham arrived in the Western Reserve from Massachusetts in 1819. The family and Tavern rooms within the museum is furnished in 19th century Ohio antiques. Also on the grounds is the Klein Formal Garden which exhibits flowers common to the mid-19th centery.

The Great Lakes Science Center is a hands on museum on the shores Lake Erie. It has more than 300 interactive exhibits within the three floor museum. The Steamer William G. Mather Museum

Docked within the North Coast Harbor, rests the retired William G. Mather Museum. This "museum" does not take the shape of any ordinary museum...it is the actual Great Lakes Bulk Freighter that was built in 1925 and served as the flagship for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company until 1952. She remained on the fleet until 1980 and in 1987 the Steamer William G. Mather was donated to the Great Lakes Historical Society.

The Western Reserve Historical Society is more than a museum . . . It is a way for students of to experience the past. There are hands-on programs for preschoolers through high school students.
